Large detached farmhouse. Early-mid C17; refronted c1750 for Robert Sandford. Ashlar limestone; coursed rubble; roughcast render; ashlar and artificial stone rebuilt chimneys; stone slate roof. Three-storey with cellar; central staircase plan. Front: fenestration 1:3:1, 12-pane sashes to ground and middle floors, 9- pane to upper floor, all with thick glazing bars and plain beaded architraves. Central break forward with pediment containing a blazon of the Sandford arms. Central pedimented doorway with moulded architraves and pulvinated frieze; double 3-panel doors with rectangular fanlight over. Central window above has similar architraves and frieze with flat cornice; eared architraves to upper floor window above. Plain middle floor band and moulded cornice below plain parapet. Hipped roofs. South side: parapet and band continues from front elevation; 4-window fenestration as to front. Outer ground floor and right middle floor openings have been blocked. Rear: 2 wings with recessed centre. Roughcast with ashlar quoins; parapet continues from sides. Single-window fenestration to ends of wings and centre: C19 restored mullioned and transomed casements with hoodmoulds to ground and middle floors of wings; 2-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements above with hood. Central doorway with double 6-panel glazed doors; late C19 framed porch; rusticated architraves to round-arched staircase sash over; 2-light casement above. North side: scattered C19 mullioned and transomed fenestration; off-centre chimney gable with rebuilt stack. Area of ashlar to ground floor right with Tudor-arched doorway having plank and cover strip door. Interior: spacious hall with open well staircase having 3 barleysugar balusters to each step, fluted Doric newels, and ramped handrail with wreathed ends. Dado panelling. Service staircase with splat balusters is probably survival from C17 house. Upper floor is incomplete with unplastered walls, no floor boards and unfinished ceilings.
