PARISH OF PILSLEY MAIN ROAD SK 27 SW 2/159 (North Side) Top House GV II House. c1838-40, probably by Joseph Paxton, for the Devonshire estate. Coursed squared sandstone with sandstone dressings. Overhanging Welsh slate roof with decorative wooden bargeboards. Paired diamond ashlar gable stacks. T-plan. Two storeys. South elevation of two plus one bays. Symmetrical two bay part has angle quoins. Central gabled porch with decorative bargeboards and finial. Segmental pointed arched doorway with slight chamfer. Pair of half glazed doors. Flanked by 2-light casement windows deeply set in plain ashlar surrounds. Arched lights to the casements. Two similar windows above, in gabled half dormers with decorative bargeboards. Lower wing to right has a similar 4-light window. Similar fenestration to rear wing.
