WALSALL MB LEICESTER STREET SP 0198 NW 13/128 Town Hall
GV II Public Hall. 1903, by J S Gibson. Facade of sandstone ashlar. Baroque style. Facade has central moulded pediment, with flanking towers which have cornices. Set forward is a lower entrance, that outer sides concave and with channelled rustication. To each side of the doorway is a window with architrave. The doorway has an architrave with central engaged Tuscan columns, within a round arch. The tympanum is carved with-two figures and dated "1903". Interior: hall has shallow barrel vault, and decorative plasterwork in a Baroque style. Side walls have an entablature with modillion cornice. Above each window is a pediment on brackets. At the south end is a gallery. The north end is apsidal, with stage and raised organ. Adjoins the Council House (qv), listed under Lichfield Street.
