10/99 Stable block c.50 metres south of Old Lea Hall Farmhouse

Stable block, probably early C17 or earlier, altered. Handmade brick with some stone quoins on plinth of sandstone blocks. Corrugated sheet roof. Rectangular plan, divided laterally by a brick partition wall. Two storeys; west side has a wide doorway into each part, and 2 large loading doors above offset to the right, all with large stone lintels; south gable has a blocked doorway; east side (rear) has 2 altered openings, and slit breathers above. (Later buildings abut on north and north-west sides). Interior: large stop-chamfered beams on moulded stone corbels: 2 longitudinal in south part and 4 lateral in north part; loft of north part has collar truss with angle struts, all timbers of large scantling and some probably re-used. Listed for group value with Old Lea Hall Farmhouse as one of the only 2 farm buildings remaining from the former manor house site.
