BRINDLE CHAPEL FOLD SD 62 NW 2/39 No.3 - GV II
Farmhouse. Early C18, incorporating part of much earlier and larger cruck-framed structure; now house. Coursed sandstone with quoins, and red brick, slate roof with gable chimneys. Three bays, with outshut to rear of 1st bay. Two storeys; left half of front is of stone, right half of red brick, all on stone base; plain doorway with rectangular lintel at junction of 1st and 2nd bays, 3 large chamfered mullion windows on each floor, those in centre 2 lights and others 3 lights. Left gable has a 2-light window at 1st floor; right gable covered with scored render, with purlin ends protruding, (building shortened at this end); rear, mostly of stone but in different builds and courses, has 6 irregularly disposed windows, those in outshut and centre all of 2 lights with mullions. Interior: 2nd and 3rd bays contain 2 full cruck trusses with blades of exceptionally large scantling, spurs to wallposts, curved windbraces to purlins, the truss in the centre containing post and rail framing; in 1st bay, which appears to be a later addition, C18 stone fireplace now blocked but with corbelled lintel and moulded cornice exposed. History not known, but may be conversion from barn.
