House. Mid-C16. One recess of the original H-plan filled in by a projecting 4-storey classical frontispiece of 1575. Various C19 and C20 alterations. Ragstone ashlar plinth to west front, ragstone ashlar basement to all other sides. Red brick above with stone dressing and crenellated parapet hiding slate roof. Three large groups of chimneys, C20 copies of those shown in the Kip engraving. West side 3 bay central frontispiece, one bay flanks, each of 3 storeys, with C19 Tudor Gothic mullion and transom windows on first and second floors; tall splayed bays with glazing bar sashes on ground floor. Four-storey frontispiece, becoming squatter towards the top, with thin columns, order by order, supporting a flattened pediment, incorporating raised panel. Each order has full entablature, full columns in centre, half columns outside. Two outer windows on first floor are round. Ashlar-faced ground floor with 2 rusticated arched windows cut off by projecting C19 porch with double ribbed doors. North side. Central 2½-storey projection with canted corners. Symmetrical 2 windows first floor and 4 window ground floor. Arched central entrance up 4 steps in recess behind 4-centred arched surround with moulded imposts. Double Gothick-head glazed margin light doors. East side. Central recess with two one-bay wings. Tower supporting clock cupola to right of recess. Irregular fenestration. Interior: Nothing remains of interiors except early C17 wooden balustraded open-newel back stairs.
