Town mansion, c. 1740-55 by William Kent, completed by Stephen Wright for Henry Pelham, considerably altered and extended in later C18 and mid C19 on forecourt side, only to be "reinstated" in latter part of 1970s with the demolition of the forebuilding. Yellow brick, slate roof. 3 storeys, basement and dormered attic. The intact Green Park west front 11 bays wide in the rhythm 3: 3: 1: 3: 1, the triplets being full height canted bays. Recessed glazing bar sashes under flat gauged arches. Stone plat bands to ground and 1st floor; stone bracketed cornice and blocking course. All windows have wrought iron balconettes. The entrance front has a "reinstated" 5 window symmetrical elevation with central doorway. Interior has good Kent work with galleried staricase compartment with coffered ceiling and very fine saloon to centre of west front, the ceiling coffered with red and blue panels with small relief figures similar to 44 Berkeley Square, apsed into bay on to Park another fine room with Kent decoration,east of saloon,and sumptuous C19 work etc.
