Description


KINGS CLIFFE WEST STREET TL0097 (North side) 12/150 No.54 GV II House. Datestone IB/BK 1702 but mainly early C19. Squared coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and Collyweston slate roof. L-shape plan. 2 storeys with attic and 3 storeys. Main front of house is early C19, 3 storeys. 2-window range at ground and first floor and 3-window range at second floor. Central, 6-panel door, with plain rectangular fanlight, stone lintel with keyblock, and ashlar dressings. 8-panel, unhorned sash windows have similar surrounds. Windows reduce at second floor. Stone stacks at ends. One bay attached to left is probably late C18, 2 storeys with attic. Central carriage arch with double doors, under wood lintel and plank door, under shallow stone arch, to right. C19 casement, under wood lintel, to first floor and hipped eaves dormers, with leaded casement, to attic. Truncated stone stack at ridge. Wing to rear is probably C18 and may have been a separate one-unit dwelling. Interior: room in rear wing has remains of open fireplace with bressumer.
