2. 1889. Architect M. Clarke Edwards. A large house of irregular plan, built of brick with stone dressings in the Flamboyant Gothic style. 2 storeys, mullion and transom windows, gables and elaborate chimneys. The entrance facade has a 2 storeyed porch, behind this is a large traceried window and an octagonal lantern. The range to the right of the porch has an elaborate sundial set into the wall and ends in an octagonal turret. To the left of the porch is a 2 storeyed bow window with a curved gable above. The garden front has numerous bay windows and is dominated by a large square tower that rises to a pyramidal roof. There is much elaborately carved, stone detailing. Interior. Said to contain much detailing including some fine wood carving which was executed by the School of Art from the designs of Mr Carr. Gardens Said to have taken 20 years to lay out the grounds. Includes many contructed features, such as grottos caves etc.
The buildings of the Friar Park estate form a group. In adittion, the lower lodge, entrance walls, gates and piers form a group with Ancastle Cottage opposite.
