LEIGH DEANOAK LANE TQ 24 NW north side (off) 6/256 Dene Farmhouse II
Farmhouse. Late C15 or early C16 hall (possibly open) and crosswing, reclad in C18 and C19 and altered in 1920s. Ground floor clad in brick, 1st floor in mixture of plain and patterned tiles. Renewed tiled roof with 2 C19 brick chimneystacks. 4 1920s oak casement windows and 1920s 2 storey porch in angle of L with doorcase flanked by sidelights and with flat wooden hood on brackets. Attached to the house is a circular 1920s summerhouse in brick with conical tiled roof incorporating a dovecot. Rear elevation has gabled extension in C18 brickwork in form of a stair turret and 1 storey C18 brick extension on to kitchen. Interior: has a 1920s staircase hall but otherwise late C15 or early C16 frame. Kitchen has 2 inch chamfered spine beam with lambs tongue stop and Dining room has similar with similarly moulded ceiling beams. Lounge has 2 1/2 inch spine beam with lambs tongue stop. Hall has sawn through beam with inserted 1920s lined oak staircase in Jacobean style. 1st floor crosswing has front room with crown post and wall frame with curved braces. Jowled upright posts. The adjoining room has midrail and diagonal braces. Curved tie beam with 2 inch chamfers and lambs tongue stop and tie beam with brush light marks. Crosswing has crown post roof with collar beam upbrace to collar beam and old pegged rafters. The main part of the house has angled queen struts and some curved windbraces. Some of the rafters appear smoke blackened but owner reported the house has suffered a fire at some time.
