Large house. C16, 1534, with additions of early C18, refronted early/mid C19. Timber framing, gault brick slate and peg tile roofs. Rectangular plan. 3 storeys. Front E elevation: gault brickwork has oolitic stone dressings, 5 bays, clasping pilasters, uneven window spacing. Front door slightly off-centre to N, stone, dentilled cornice hood, plain frieze and pilasters, simple capitals and bases, 4 panelled door. Stone bands between storeys, flat window arches and sills also stone. Ground floor, sashes, 3x4 panes, first floor 2-light casement window with glazing bars 4x3 panes plus upper fixed light 4x1 panes. Second floor, `cross' windows with glazing bars, 2 lower casements 4x3 paned in all, plus upper light, 4x1 panes. Deep boarded eaves with brick dentils, slate roof hipped, stacks at N and S ends, roof ridge of rear wing in line with front door. W end elevation: pink gault brick with integral rear lean-to. Lower part obscured but second floor and first floor have 2 and one blind segment headed window apertures. Lean-to, second floor, segment headed window with C20 3-light metal casement. End gault brick stack emerges through pitch of hipped roof. Roof of W wing hipped and peg-tiled, subsidiarly similar roof in internal angle between wing and lean-to. E end mainly obscured but in similar style to front, plain with stack as at W end. INTERIOR: RCHM records house origin as possibly in early C16 as a large fireplace bears an inscription possibly 1534, with the syllables `MYD' AND `DYL' and, between them a carved `tun' bearing the letter K. This fireplace is now lined with Delft tiles. Also C16, C17 and C18 panelling are recorded by the RCHM. These features are said to be still in situ.
