THE CLOSE 1. 1594 Nos 57, 57A and 57B (Braybrooke House) SU 1429 NW 3/14 (Formerly listed as Choir School House) 28.2.52. I GV 2. This was the master's house of the former Chorister's School No 56c qv and the residence of Canon Alexander de Hemingsby. Originally Nos 56c and 57 were one building. C15/Cl4 refronted early C18. 2 storeys and attic. Brick with stone quoins and first floor string. Moulded and coved cornice. Old tile roof. 2 hipped dormers with lead casements. 5 windows with architrave frames on first floor. 4 similar windows on ground floor and 6-Panel central door with pediment hood on large carved scroll brackets with acanthus leaf ornament. Tho earlier structure survives to rear. 2 storeys flint and stone rubble, some tile herringbone. Later additions and restorations. 2 large tile hung gables. Pointed arched stone framed window. 2 external chimney stacks of flint rubble. C18 staircase and 2 front rooms one with panelling the other with Rococo stucco work in alcove arch. Remains of timber framework to earlier part.
